My daughter graduates tomorrow and she asked for a German chocolate cake. So I baked her one.
A good cake is like an ogre, it has layers. The only problem is flattening each layer consistently. That’s when a cake slicer comes in handy. Think cheese slicer but much bigger.
I forgot take a picture in-progress, so the final product will have to do.
The lid was a perfect fit.
What to do with the cake top? Cake balls , of course! My daughter made the cake balls.
Graduation will be a walk through campus with appropriate separation. We aren’t even allowed to get out of the car until we’re called. Diplomas will be waiting on a table. I’m not complaining, at least she gets a ceremony of some sort!
We’re looking forward to a celebration tomorrow. Congratulations to all the 2020 graduates!

It was my mom’s favorite and now is my daughter’s too. A lot of people don’t like the coconut, but we think it makes the cake!

Fantastic! Skyrocketing tuition payments await!
So appropriate that you made a German chocolate cake . Engineered with skill and precision, and yet will plummet in value within a week, if it even makes it that long.

Congrats! I will say that I’m a bit surprised that somewhere as hard a hit as your AO is having people show up to campus. My school is doing everything virtually, despite AZ being viewed as taking this thing lightly.
Schools are gonna school, and the person in charge of campus health probably has a M.Ed from the nearest degree mill, so make sure to clean that diploma.

We were surprised too. But they are taking a ton of precautions. Only parents are allowed to attend and we walk with our senior instead of watching from the stands. We can’t even get out of the car until they call us. Graduation will be in groups of ten. We walk through the campus on a specific route, get the diploma, take a picture with OU senior (no handshake, no phot op wit the principal ), then we are led back to our car. It will be the shortest graduation I’ll ever attend!

I am fortunate that my daughter made the mature decision and selected the school that offered her a completely free ride. Tuition, room & board are all covered. Since she attended a private high school, I expect my costs to go down this fall!

Nice!
My daughter took up baking since Rona shut the schools...turns out she’s quite good at it
Less good at cleaning up as she goes but whatever...it's a lemon air cake thingie... Has a French sounding name I immediately forgot

Jealous. I’m about to enter the private high school phase.

One down, one to go.
I think the private school was worth the investment. Four years at our daughter’s school cost us less than a nice SUV.
T
he scholarships she won will pay for her college degree without any loans. We may need to chip in for graduate school, but for the moment, we have a little relief.

That’s not a bad deal. Four years of my daughter’s school will cost is about 1 year of salary for me.
